Discouragement

Today was a down day for John. He was a bit discouraged. He has not been up for a week now but in bed all day long. Also he is concerned that when they are ready to send him back to GF Strong their will not be a bed for him. We read Psalm 22 together and ended up talking about the last verse "They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn - for he has done it."

  1. Hi John, this was the Spurgeon devotional today:

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:4)

Jehovah is "the Keeper of Israel." No form of unconsciousness ever steals over Him, neither the deeper slumber nor the slighter sleep. He never fails to watch the house and the heart of His people...

"Behold" is here set up to call our attention to the cheering truth. Israel, when he had a stone for his pillow, fell asleep; but His God was awake and came in vision to His servant. When we lie defenseless, Jehovah Himself will cover our head.

The Lord keeps His people as a rich man keeps his treasure, as a captain keeps a city with a garrison, as a sentry keeps watch over his sovereign. None can harm those who are in such keeping. Let me put my soul into His dear hands. He never forgets us, never ceases actively to care for us, never finds Himself unable to preserve us.

  2. Hi John and Laverne,

I pray that today will be a better day for you.

I'm still stuck (joyfully) on your verse of 2 or 3 days ago, Isaiah 55:12. We used to sing that quite often at Peace Church. Carrying on to the end of the verse, the trees of the field are clapping their hands, John, for the joy you bring to others.

God bless you and bring you peace.

    Kathy
