As anyone who has travelled with John would know, the Minister's Cat is his favourite game for car trips. And, if you have ever played this game with him, you will know that his superior vocabulary makes him an expert. To play, one person starts by using a descriptive word to describe the 'minister's cat' beginning with a-z. This blog is dedicated to John, in order to update friends and family about his journey and provide areas of prayer.

Open House 2010
We wanted to let people see how we were faring in our new situation so on Saturday we had an open house. We were happy to see so many friends turn up and share a beautiful sunny day with us. We are blessed with so many good friends. For those who couldn’t make it be sure and drop in on us when you are in PR. My prayer for you is Eph 3:14-16 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

The minister's cat was sick
The minister’s cat has been sick for a few days but we now don’t have to go in to the hospital twice a day so I have time to write the blog. Friday is our 33rd anniversary so we are going to be celebrating all day! Saturday is our open house (where we hope to see all of you) and time for more celebration. If you can’t make it Saturday we would love to see you at some other time. Call ahead as I might be out gallivanting. Please pray as I am still battling an infection now using oral antibiotics. I don’t want to have to go back to the hospital.

Infection, again
Today John woke up not feeling well and said he wanted to go to Emergency. When his blood work was done they realized he had an infection so he was started on antibiotics. The good news is that he does not need to stay in the hospital. To say the least I was very relieved that we could bring him home. Please pray for John because the blood work also showed his hemoglobin has dropped and we need to figure out why this is happening

Chance Encounter
Over the past couple of days I have continually run into people that I knew before my accident, some who knew of my injury and others did not. Today we went to Wal-Mart and I met someone from the university and someone I had worked with in AWANA. The previous night was the Blackberry Festival Street Party. We kept meeting people we knew all up and down the street. We were mutually encouraging one another. It was exciting to meet people and hear they are still praying for us and they were pleased to see me out and about around PR. Give thanks with us for all the chance encounters we have had. We look forward to having more chance encounter in the following days.

Looking back after a year
Today is the one year anniversary of the accident that changed my life-at least the physical part of my life. As Laverne put it, we would not have chosen this path but it has been good to know that the Lord is walking with us through it and I have made considerable advances since the accident. It has also been a month and a half since I got home from ECU and I have not had to go back except for visits since my discharge. In the words of I John 3:2 “what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” Please join us in thanksgiving for this first year and pray we will continue a joyful walk in this our second year. PS don’t forget our open house Aug 28 1-4pm

Day by Day
Today was another day of walking with My Good Shepherd. Last night I was really encouraged to be out sharing time with the two music teams of our church. We were at a BBQ at the Vandeverts. The good was good and the company was the same. Today as I was sitting in my living room talking with my caregiver, Loretta she suddenly said I hear a lawnmower. Our friend Dietmar was coming down the road and he proceded to cut the lawn, Laverne's hair and my hair. This afternoon we went into town missing most of the road work and then came back home. Through it all I was reminded of the song Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here. Trusting in my Saviour's wise bestowment I've no cause for worry or for fear. Now I am ready to tuck in for another night. God bless you all. Continue to pray for my improving health and patience for Laverne

Hello I’m back!
Over the past week I have spent quite a lot of the time in bed. I don’t feel bad but I don’t have much energy. I really wanted to write this blog today because Sunday and Monday were special days. Sunday our guest speaker challenged us on to think correctly about heaven and Don Edmonds had the song “I can only imagine” which kind of reveals how little we understand what the Bible has to say about heaven,. Of course it doesn’t help that much of our understanding comes from the book of Revelation because Revelation is full of symbolism which leaves it open to interpretation. All I know is every time we spend time in our Bible study on this we find it hard to read a consensus. This bring me around to our Monday Bible Study which was on Jesus’ suffering and how we are called to follow in his steps 1Peter 2:21. This was encouraging as it means I may not be out of God’s will if I suffer. In fact Philippians 1:29 says For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake. Pray that my energy will increase

I have so much to do today that I stayed in bed.
I know it seems like an oxymoron. However today I wanted to work on my computer and it's easier to do that from bed. I still find it difficult to do good Google search and also handle and organize my e-mail. I have another program called Darcy which uses Morse code to let me type. But here I am tonight making some progress in using Dragon naturally speaking. Please pray for all of us 2782 Wilcox. Not only is it still hot, but we actually have smoke in the air from the interior. Pray too for Loretta's four-year-old as he has pneumonia.

Busy, Busy, Busy
Things getting very busy around here. On Saturday the piano was moved from old house to the barn and the dishwasher and sink were installed.
The first two lines I wrote myself, I haven’t had enough time to practice and it took a long time so Laverne is writing the rest. I know we have missed a few days and now that things are happening more frequently I think I will be writing a blog less often. Please pray with us that I will get a handle on using the computer so I can communicate more regularly. I find it difficult even to organize my email. Also I need your prayers because I have a small skin infection and it is giving me a lot more spasms.
